Fashion Show organized by Mrs. India-International at Pujari Atlanta Diwali Dhamaka 2010

Posted in Cultural Programme, Events by Pujari Atlanta on October 19, 2010

Pujari Atlanta will host Diwali Dhamaka (check www.pujari.org for details) on Nov 13th, 2010. As part of the cultural extravaganza, a “fashion show” will be organized by Mrs. India-International’ 08, Adrita Khanna (e-mail: director@mrsindiainternational.com). This is not your traditional “fashion show” with walking on the ramp, looking like a model, but of a different kind, in which the director will try to highlight our Indian culture and tradition and inner beauty rather than a gorgeous figure/face. She will suggest the outfits – open to suggestions (to be arranged for from your own wardrobe/ borrow from friends).

This will be a great opportunity to learn few styling tips from a pro. If you like to dance/ dress up/ have fun, you should grab this opportunity. Please contact me ASAP as we are finalizing the participants list and will begin rehearsing soon. If you are uncertain as to the program and would like to learn more before you decide, please contact Adrita or attend the first meeting and then decide finally. I am sincerely hoping that you will join. I am trying to facilitate this event for Pujari Atlanta as Adrita has graciously offered to give her valuable time for directing this event, and we are so privileged.

Thanks, and do pass this e-mail to any friends who are interested as well.

Regards,
Sonia (Sudeshna) on behalf of Pujari

Event to honor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at IACA

Posted in Events by Pujari Atlanta on September 14, 2010
Dr. Muhammad Yunus

Dr. Muhammad Yunus addressing at the event at IACA

“The Banker to the poor suggests Growing Social Business” – An event co-hosted by Pujari to honor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at IACA on August 28th, 2010.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, famed economist and Nobel Prize winner was in Atlanta for three days and Pujari was able to host the event to honor him with a Humanitarian Award in association with India American Cultural Association. Two other organizations Gandhi Foundation of USA and Bengali Association of Greater Atlanta also co-sponsored the event besides Pujari.

Dr. Yunus was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the Grameen Bank – which he founded in 1983 in Bangladesh, “for their efforts to create economic and social development from below“.  He is the founder of the concepts of microcredit and microfinance and established the Grameen Bank in 1983 in Bangladesh for helping the poor escape poverty by providing small loans to them on suitable terms. He also served on the board of directors of the United Nations Foundation, and was involved in organizing the relief events in Haiti or other parts of the world.

In his speech, he said the idea behind Grameen Bank was developed after he began to lose faith in the economic concepts he was teaching students, which he believed did little to help those in need. Dr. Yunus’ vision is the total eradication of poverty from the world. The Grameen Bank, which began as a research project by Dr. Yunus in 1976, has reversed conventional banking wisdom by focusing on women borrowers, dispensing-off of the requirement of collateral and extending loans only to the very poorest borrowers. Today, more than 250 institutions in nearly 100 countries operate micro-credit programs based on the Grameen Bank model.

Pujari is thankful to its member Dr. Gauranga Banik, who is also a member of IACA executive committee. He was instrumental in getting him with us and organizing the event in a very short span of time.
